Over the past year, Giles and I have been lucky enough to become friends with Matt Reilly, short fiction author and all-around awesome person. While we were in England, we met Matt and his wife, and thanks to them, we also met Vini Reilly, guitarist and leader of one of our favourite musical groups, The Durutti Column.
A couple of months before we met them, Giles and I made this comic for Vini’s birthday, and he and Matt have given us their kind permission to share it. (This is actually a slightly modified version of what Vini received, because his story was for him alone.)
If you’d like to know a little more about Vini and the story that inspired his comic, you can hear him talk about his life here (but please be aware, it is not an easy listen; the story was told in support of this charity).
You should know, though, that the story has a happy ending, even if the interview doesn’t make it clear. And you should know that Vini is doing well now, is back to recording for a new album, and is also one of the most amazing people we have had the privilege of meeting.
Listen to some of Vini’s music here, or find it available for purchase here. Trust us. It’s worth it.
